  • Avoid Ingesting Latex: The latex found in aloe vera leaves can have laxative effects and may be toxic in large quantities. Always drain the latex and extract only the gel for internal use.
  • Be sure to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating aloe vera gel into your routine, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or are pregnant.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh aloe vera gel
  • 1 ripe banana, peeled
  • 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Ice cubes (optional, for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Wash an aloe vera leaf thoroughly (if freshly cut from the plant, allow the yellowish sap - aloin - to drain as it may have laxative effects)
  2. Peel the leaf by laying it flat on a cutting board and use a knife to slice off the serrated edges along both sides of the leaf and make a lengthwise incision along one side of the leaf, being careful not to pierce through the entire thickness of the leaf.
  3. Extracting the gel by gently opening the leaf to reveal the gel-filled interior. Using a spoon, scrape out the gel and transfer it to a clean container.
  4. Measure out one cup of the fresh aloe vera gel.
  5. In a blender, combine the fresh aloe vera gel, banana, spinach, pineapple chunks, ground flax seed, coconut water, and honey.
  6. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  7. If desired, add ice cubes and blend again until the desired consistency is reached.
  8. Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately.
